At British Gaskets group we hope to provide detailed information about the company. We start with information on the company history from it’s beginnings in 1929 through the advancements made to the present day.

  • 1929

    The first gasket was cut by British Gaskets when the family run company was formed in central London.

  • 1971

    Masterforms cutters began as an on-site tooling company in 1971 manufacturing tools for gasket production and the carton industry.

  • 1973

    Specialist mouldings and O rings were incorporated into the companies product range in 1973 when British Seals and Rubber Moulding Ltd. was launched.

  • 1977

    1977 saw the very first British Rail Contract signed which began a long and successful partnership between the two companies.

  • 1987

    British Gaskets Ltd became the first gasket company to achieve BS 5750, at the time, the most widely recognised industry ISO quality standard.

  • 1992

    A new manufacturing site was acquired at Sudbury, Suffolk to accommodate the Groups ever increasing customer base. This year also saw the development of our own range of materials, in partnership with one of Europe’s leading manufacturers, Fibras y Elastomeros.

  • 1994

    To enhance its global sourcing capacity, the Group set out to form alliances with the Far East. As a result a commercial partnership was formed with a leading Chinese moulding manufacturer.

  • 1996

    The British Gaskets Group acquired the well respected Norse Rubber Products LTD, enhancing the groups ability to provide bespoke rubber mouldings to speciality markets.

  • 1999

    The Group’s 70th anniversary – An automotive aftermarket facility was established that provides the Group with a strong presence in the automotive aftermarket industry.

  • 2000

    BG Automotive a resounding success in the first year.

  • 2001

    Further expansion was achieved when the group purchased Cotswold Rubber Products. Diversifying to other markets the Group also launched BG Packaging.

  • 2004

    The Group expanded its operations with the acquisition of Scotland’s leading sealing distribution company, Bovill & Boyd Engineering. The company also proudly announced its successful accreditation to ISO/TS 16949:2002 business management system.

  • 2007

    To supplement our support of industries with specialised sealing requirements, substantial investment saw the introduction of screen printing gasket manufacturing at our Sudbury Gaskets Manufacturing site.

  • 2009

    Expanded the Groups Product portfolio with the acquisition of 3D Moulding, a widely respected plastic injection moulding company. The press tonnage ranges of 150T to 580T enabled the business to present itself to previously unexplored markets.

  • 2010

    Acquired 6 acres of land in order to future proof the group in preparation for our expansion plans. This purchase ensures we have an adequate footprint not only for the amalgamation of some of the current businesses but also very much with future expansion in mind

  • 2011

    Phase 1 Planning permission has been granted to build 35,000 square feet of bespoke manufacturing space at our Sudbury manufacturing site.  This will house our Plastic injection moulding division and Distribution centre. This event marks the beginning of our ambitious plan to bring together on one site some of the group companies. Our customer base will now have access to a wide range of products from one customer visit.

  • 2012

    Our Brentwood seals and gaskets distribution division has now moved in to bespoke new premises in Sudbury, Suffolk. This has been a long awaited move for the company. It brings our gasket manufacturing, plastic manufacturing and distribution divisions together on one site. The new 6 acre site currently has 60,000 square feet of bespoke manufacturing and distribution space. The site has future expansion capabilities of 30,000 square feet.

  • 2013

    Acquisition of Quansboro Plastics. This increases our range of press capacity by 40% and range of tonnage from 20T to 580T. As with the original purchase of a plastic moulder this also opens up our business to previously unexplored markets and more blue chip companies

    Phase 2 Planning permission has been granted to build 35,000 square feet of bespoke manufacturing space at our Sudbury manufacturing site.  This will house our Gasket Manufacturing division.

  • 2014

    Completion of Phase 2 build of our expansion plans, clears the way for BG Gaskets Sudbury manufacturing move into the main Sudbury site. The old facility had served the business well but continued growth made this move a necessity

  • 2015

    BG Automotive (the aftermarket division of British Gaskets Ltd) announce that today (21 April 2015) we have been named as winners of a Queen’s Award for Enterprise – the UK’s highest accolade for business success. The Queen’s Awards, made annually by HM The Queen, provide an opportunity to celebrate and encourage excellence in UK business. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Awards, with approximately 140 Queen’s Awards being announced for outstanding business achievement in the fields of International Trade, Innovation and Sustainable Development.

    We have received our award for International Trade in recognition of our exceptional export efforts and achieving increased year on year sales figures. Now in our sixth year of international trading, we have shown that we can deliver an exceptional service, meeting and exceeding the demands of our overseas customers.

2015 & Beyond

Our ambitious plans are beginning to have the desired effect. For a third successive year, BG has been awarded the Silver Award from the globally recognised Caterpillar Supplier Excellence Program.

Our dedication to quality whether through product, service or aftermarket support will ensure our business will remain at the forefront of our industry.  The British Gaskets Group will continue to bring world class solutions to an ever wider range of customers.
